Desmond Noel Smith, 71, a native of Belfast, Ireland, and resident of Houma, La., died Sunday, May 4, 2014.
Mr. Smith was an avid sailor. He served as a boat captain in the oil and gas industry and on private sail boat charters in the Virgin Islands. He was also a self-employed machinist.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Smith; sons, Desmond Jr. (Karen), Timothy and Alec Smith; daughter, Lois (Leland) Lirette; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alec and Marie Smith.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Chauvin Funeral Home. (Chauvin)
