Donald Lancon, 79, a native and resident of Morgan City, La., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010.


After attending Delgado Community College, in New Orleans, Mr. Lancon returned home to Morgan City to practice his new trade, accounting. He worked for a local family for 23 years at their car dealership and various other businesses the family owned as an accountant. He then worked for Avondale Industries in Bayou Black until their relocation to New Orleans, at which time he retired. He was active in the community, was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of Holy Cross Parish where he was a Eucharistic Minister to the home bound. He also delivered groceries and supplies to those same people for just a smile. In his younger days, he was an active member in the Kiwanis Club of Morgan City.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Chad) Abshire; son, Wayne Lancon; sister, Elaine Lancon Grizzaffi; six grandchildren, Andy, Brandy, Tiffany, Jeremy, Emily and Shelby; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Kronlage; son, Donald “Donnie” Lancon; parents, Alcide Lancon and Genevieve Dupuis; sister, Adeline Guichet; and brother, Myron Lancon.

He is buried at Morgan City Cemetery.
