Dorothy Porche Lyons, 69, a native of Houma, La., and a resident of Thibodaux, La., died Wednesday, July 25, 2007.

She is survived by her former husband and best friend, Leroy Lyons; two daughter, Nicole Williams and her husband Glen and Lisa Kouame’ and her husband Francis; one spiritual daughter, Elder Joyce Branch and her husband Johnny; three sisters, Audrey Belle Calloway and her husband Royal, Carol Dabney, and Barbara Mensah; and six grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Gladys Stewart Butler Porche, Sr.; and two brothers, Willard Porche, Jr. and Edward Porche.

Dorothy was a devout Baptist and a faithful member of Beacon of Light Baptist Church in Houma. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and praising God. She was a retired assistant principal, counselor, and teacher who worked for the Terrebonne Parish School system for over 40 years.

Visitation is Saturday, August 4, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with the funeral to follow at Tabernacle of Love on Tiger Drive in Thibodaux. She will be buried at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery in Gibson, La.

Community Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of the arrangements.
