Edward Joseph Melancon Sr., 80, a native of Cut Off, La., and a resident of Leeville, La., died Friday, January 16, at 11:15 p.m.
He is survived by his sons, Wayne Melancon Sr. and wife Margie of Leeville, and Jack Melancon and wife Shelia of Larose, La.; daughter, Linda Lafont and husband Larry of Larose; brother, Johnny Melancon Sr. and wife Gilda of Cut Off; sisters, Mary Plaisance of Cut Off, and Jane Foster and husband Van of Lake Charles, La.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nege Lombas Melancon; long-time companion, Irma Lee; parents, Theogene and Ava Cheramie Melancon; son, Edward Melancon Jr.; daughters, Aline Marie Melancon; brothers, Woodrow Melancon, T.J. Melancon, Jimmy Melancon and Tilman Melancon; and daughter-in-law, Aline Doucet Melancon.
He was Catholic and a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. His hobbies included shrimping and he was a retired fisherman.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with mass to follow. Burial will be at Cheramie Cemetery.
Samart-Mothe Funeral Home of Cut Off is in charge of the arrangements.
