Edward Louis Meyer Jr., 86, a native of St. Louis, Mo., died Thursday, March 10, 2011, in Morgan City, La.


Mr. Meyer was a disabled veteran serving in WWII, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a wonderful high school teacher and was awarded the Ford Foundation National Teacher of the Year. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and an avid gardener and traveler to distant places. He was a friend to all and will be missed by family and friends.


He is survived by his daughter, Peggy (John) Eaton; sons, Edward III (Donna) and Jim Meyer; five grandsons, Marc (Diann) and Kent (Renee’) Eaton, Brad Denham, and Jon and Alex Meyer; one granddaughter, Melissa (Harvey) Hanson; three great-granddaughters, Eliza, Samatha and Britney; two great-grandsons, Neal Eaton and Nolan Henson; brother-in-law, Ernie Meyer; niece, Betty Meyer-Smith; and nephew, Mike Bodine.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Hartin Meyer; and grandson, T. Scott Eaton.

The family would like to thank his caregivers and sisters, Myrna and Mary. Also we would like to thank the staff at Maison Jardin for all their love and support. (Hargrave)
