Elaine Champagne “Teen” Aycock, 93, a native of Charenton, La., and lifelong resident of Franklin, La., died Monday, May 9, 2011.

Affectionately known as “Teen” by those closest to her, Mrs. Aycock was a devoted wife and an exceptional mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent a great part of her life in the political arena with her husband. She unselfishly divided her time between her responsibilities as the wife of a lawyer, state legislator and Lieutenant Governor with her responsibilities as a mother determined to remain in Franklin to make it home for her six children. She was a gracious host to the many who visited her home and could readily involve herself in any conversation, especially issues involving her supportive role in state government as she represented her husband for many official state functions. She was a devout Catholic and a daily communicant for most of the ambulatory years of her life. She gave her entire life to her family and will be remembered with pride and admiration by her children. Her enduring spirit, perpetual sense of humor, amazing strength of will and character, generosity and conviction to her beliefs of life and love will be her legacy. She will be lovingly be remembered by all whom she touched.

She is survived by her sister, Lillian Turner; brother, E.J. Champagne Jr.; children, Barbara “Tateen” (Dr. Dirk) Ory, Joseph “Jody” (June), Dr. Kenneth (Sandra) and Larry “Moo” (Kathy) Aycock, Mary Margaret (Michael) Valls and Susan Fleniken; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. “Taddy” Aycock; father, E.J. Champagne Sr.; mother, Agnes Hebert Champagne; brothers, Elton, Roy and Lee Champagne; sister, Vivian Champon; and son-in-law, Greg Fleniken.

The family expresses a debt of gratitude for the love and dedication of her friend and caregiver, Bessie Tugwell, her son, Torre, and her extended family. The same gratitude is extended to caregiver, Mae Hidalgo, her family and the neighbors who were always willing to help “Ms. Teen.”

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Michael and Matt Ory, Tad, John, Ben and Cason Aycock. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandsons, Thomas Theriot and Cameron Landry, and family friend, Torre Tugwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John-Hanson Foundation, 924 Main St., Franklin, LA 70538, or Heart of Hospice, 201 W. Vermillion St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70501 in memory of Elaine Champagne “Teen” Aycock.

She is buried at Franklin Cemetery. (Ibert’s Mortuary)
