Elwood “Wookie” Flattmann Sr., 77, a native of New Orleans, La., and a resident of Gray, La., died Saturday, Sept. 26.


He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Farrar Flattmann of Gray; two sons, Elwood Flattmann Jr. and wife Julie of Gretna, La., and James Flattmann of Covington, La.; one stepson, Bradley Chatagnier and wife Kendra of Houma, La.; one daughter, Sheri Plaisance and husband Keith of LaComb, Miss.; two stepdaughters, Teri Chatagnier-Cavalier of Gray and Deidi Rodrigue and husband Mitch of Petal, Miss.; one step-daughter-in-law, Fran Chatagnier of Houma; one brother, Gustave Flattmann Jr. of New Orleans; three sisters, Rita Budge of Gretna, Mildred Hinyup of Gretna, and Maureen Provenzano of Mandeville, La.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustave Flattmann Sr. and Mildred Silver Flattmann; his first wife, Geraldine Cousins Flattmann; one step-son, David Chatagnier; one brother, Henry Flattmann Sr.; one sister, Mae Younger; and one great-grandchild, James Flattmann III.

He was Catholic and attended the First Baptist Church in Houma. He was a retired P.M.T. with Sears after 23 years, a retired bus driver with Orleans Parish School board after 37 years and the owner of Wookie’s Lawnmower Repair.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at First Baptist Church with a memorial service to follow.

Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of the arrangements.
