Emile B. Rogues Jr., 87, a native of Baton Rouge, La., and a resident of Thibodaux, La., died following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Saturday, March 28.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia Gussman Roques; sons, Emile B. Roques III and wife Donna of Houston, Tx., and Troy A. Roques and wife Stacey of Kingston Ontario, Canada; daughter, Charae R. Sorenson and husband Henrick of Bejing, China; stepdaughters, Terri B. Robertson and husband Andrew of Thibodaux, and Bobbie B. Ramer and husband John Ramer of Lafayette, La.; sister, Elaine Hudgins of Houston; brothers-in-law, Pete Landry of Donaldsonville, La., and Van Mayhall Sr. of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Eric, Travis and Amanda Ramer of Lafayette, Christina Sorenson of Bejing and Robert Emile Roques of Kingston Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Edna Hernandez Roques Sr.; sisters, Edna, Evelyn and Marie; and grandson, Nicholas A. Robertson.


He attended St. Joseph Academy and graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge in 1942. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country in the 8th Air Force from 1942-1945. After being honorably discharge he continued his education at LSU.

He was a 40 year employee of Bernard and Burk Consulting Engineers. Upon retiring he started his own company, R.E.I. Inspectors of Thibodaux. He enjoyed golfing, football, baseball and traveling, particularly his trips to England, Germany, West Berlin and France after his granddaughter was born. Emile was passionate about his music and dancing. He was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the National Electrical Code and a life member of the American Legion Post 11. He was a World War II veteran and very dedicated to his country, his family, his church and everyone he met. He adored all of his grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Hospice of Acadiana in Lafayette.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Thibodaux Funeral Home. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

Pallbearers will be Emile B. Roques III, Troy A. Roques, Andrew Robertson, John Ramer, Eric and Travis Ramer. Honorary pallbearers will be Henrick Sorenson and Robert Emile Roques.

Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
