Floyd Joseph Collins, 84, a native of Houma, La., and resident of Dulac, La., died Saturday, May 14, 2011.


Mr. Collins was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. He served his country as a PVT in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 390th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in Germany. He was a loving husband of 63 1/2 years and father of four who supported his family as a commercial fisherman his entire life on his pride and joy, motor vessel, “Miss Barbara”. He was a co-founder in 1951 and life member of V.F.W. Post 4752 in Dulac, where he served numerous years as post commander, home committee, building committee and bingo committee and all state post quarter master, caretaker of the post. He was also a member of the Grand Caillou Volunteer Fire Department. His hobbies included making a garden, watching boxing, baseball, bull riding rodeos, riding his bicycle backwards, rocking and singing babies to sleep, and spoiling his loved ones.

He is survived by his spouse, MaryLain Collins; sons, Lloyd (Mary Alice) and Brian (Laura); honorary son, Leroy (Theresa) Fanguy; daughters, Sheila (Mack) Pellegrin and Karen LeBoeuf; brother, Donald (Diana) Collins; sisters, Barbara Theriot; 13 grandchildren, Tina Naquin, Stephanie, Brittani, Bryant and Brock Collins, Elena Duplantis, Doresia “Dory” Gibson, Angel Bonvillian, Derek Pellegrin, Brandon Olivier, Kasey Gentry, Russell LeBoeuf and Desiree’ Hayes; 18 great-grandchildren, Kaegan Verrett, Lance and Shelby Naquin, Lloyd Collins, Ryan Bouquet, Alicen Bouquet, Brent, Lynzi and Landon Duplantis, Jada Cook, Tate Dupre, Kamryn Fitch, Keilan and Luke Bonvillian, Derek Jr. and Bryn Pellegrin, and Robby and Joseph Gentry; and one great-great-grandchild, Peyton Verrett.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtile and Libby Marie Trosclair Collins; grandparents, Euqene and Vina Collins and Lazin and Doresia Trosclair; brothers, Wanna, Arnold and Percy Collins; sisters, Joyce Voisin and Norma Authement; and one grandchild, Mary Prosperie.

The family would like to thank TGMC, CCU Unit, Dr. Russell Henry, Dr. Nair, Dr. Pape, Dr. Greg Maidoh, Dr. Beyer, Dr. Don Schwab, Dr. David Rau, Thibodaux Surgical Specialist wound care team for the loving care you’ve shown to us all.
