Geneva Pradia, 68, a native of Baldwin, La., and a resident of Maryland, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at 6:10 a.m.


She is survived by her children, Sheila Norris, and Elvin, Jason and Jeremy Pradia; sisters, Benedict Fleming, Lilly (Charles) Bourgeois, Viola Thomas, Carrie (Maxie) Jackson and Betty Guy; brother, Earl (Laura) Baptiste; 20 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was a retired school teacher of the Iberia Parish School System where she held positions as an elementary school teacher and special education LINK Counselor during her 30 year tenure. After her retirement, she became a consultant for the Federal Head Start Program. Throughout her life, she displayed an unwavering commitment and love for her family and friends rooted in the religious and moral foundations of her upbringing.


In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Geneva Baptiste Pradia Scholarship Fund, 9923 LaDuke Drive, Kensington, MD 20895.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Baldwin. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at the church with interment at Special Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Baldwin.

Jones Funeral Home in Franklin, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
