Georgia Bouvier Dufrene, 73, a native of Lockport, La., and resident of Gheens, La., died at 5:07 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011.


Mrs. Dufrene was a very fun-loving, caring and giving person, and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her. She loved to travel. She was an elder of the Gheens Presbyterian Church, a Bible School teacher for more than 50 years, a member of Gheens Homemaker Club for 50 years, and a member of the Gheens Senior Citizens. She was a Boy Scout leader and Brownie leader. Georgia or “Miss Joe,” as the kids would call her, was retired from the Lafourche Parish School Board. She owned and drove school bus 139 for 25 years.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Jr. “T-Bob” (Cindy), Bryan Sr. (Denise) and Corky (Andrea) Dufrene; daughter, Penny Orgeron; brothers, Alfred (Jeannette) and Paul (Sandy) Bouvier; sisters, Laura (Robert) Danos, Lola (Ray) Eschette and Susie (Timothy) Robichaux; nine grandchildren, Jamie (Darrin Sr.) Heigle, Jorie (Gabe) Gorenflo, Jessie D., Robert (Timerberlea) Dufrene, Cheryl (Phillip) Hosea, Lena and Bryan Jr. Dufrene, Tiffany (Cody) Theriot and Misty Dufrene; and three great-grandchildren, Koby and Darren Jr. Heigle and Braxton Theriot.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dufrene Sr.; parents, Duffy and Enola Hebert Bouvier; one brother, Henry Bouvier; one son, Rickey Dufrene; one daughter-in-law, Charmaine D. Dufrene; and one granddaughter, Katelynn Anne Dufrene.

The family would like to thank all the friends and family for their prayers and support. A special thanks to the staff and doctors who took care of her.

She is buried at the Gheens Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
