Gladys Duplantis Picou, 95, a native and resident of Chauvin, La., died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011.


Mrs. Picou was a member of the Chauvin Senior Citizens Club, where she enjoyed visiting with friends, creating art, quilting and making ceramic crafts. She was also a member of the Lagniappe on the Bayou Singers and also worked in the quilters’ booth every year at the fair. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Narie Prosperie; sons, Lawrence Sr. (Adriane), Conrad Sr. (Marylee), Ray (Charlene) and Thomas “Tommy” (Jenny) Picou; sisters, Lourella LeCompte and Edna “Dee” Foret; brother, Alfred Duplantis Sr.; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Picou; parents, Wilson Sr. “Tim” and Theolan Margaret Theriot Duplantis; sister, Rosaline Orgeron; brothers, Wilson Jr., Wilsey and Murphy Sr. Duplantis; one grandchild, Francis Picou; and son-in-law, Lloyd Paul Prosperie.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt, “Thank You,” to the staff, nurses and CNA’s at The Oaks of Houma for caring for our mother. We would like to also say, “Thank You,” to The Haydel Clinic and the entire staff in CCU and the 4th floor at T.G.M.C.

She is buried at St. Joseph Cemetery. (Chauvin)
