Gustave “Gus” J. Pitre, 65, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Cut Off, La., died at 7:24 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2006.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Samart Funeral Home in Cut Off. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial in Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano, La.


He is survived by his former wife, Sarah “Sally” Sikes, mother of Darren and Wendy Pitre; his parents, Louis and Judith Pitre; two sons, Darren Pitre and wife, Angela, and Preston Leonard; one daughter, Wendy P. Pitre and husband, Richard; three brothers, Noble, Jackie and Tab Pitre; one sister, Bonnie Mixon; seven grandchildren, Charles Barzar Jr., Raimie Cantrelle, Brisk Martin, Sidney Pitre, Darren Pitre Jr., Brayten Pitre and Brhe’a Pitre; and four great-grandchildren, Maddox Cantrelle, Josh Bourgeois Jr., Hayden Martin and Hannah Martin.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vina Pitre, Ernest Cantrelle, Louis Pitre Sr. and Rosanza Vega Pitre.

His famous quote was “Ayee Baebae.” He loved LSU sports, fishing, hunting and cooking. He was employed by Golden Motors for many years.

Samart Funeral Home in Cut Off is in charge of arrangements.
