Harold “Buddie” George Chauvin Jr., 83, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, April 5, 2014. 


Mr. Chauvin was a champion distance runner in track at Terrebonne High School in Houma and Loyola University in New Orleans, La. He was inducted into the Loyola Athletic Hall of Fame with his team in 2004 and then again by himself in 2007.  He still holds many records for distance running at both schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran and joined his father’s family business, Chauvin Brothers in Chauvin, La., until he opened his own furniture store, Imperial Furniture Mart, in 1967.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Deretha Chauvin; children, Harold III and Michael Chauvin and Jeannine Bergeron; stepdaughters Amanda Clark and Lily Cardneaux; brother, Donald Chauvin; sisters, Sybil Boudreaux, Yvonne Daigle, Patricia Autin and Beverly Carrol; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Chauvin; sister, Maybelle Prather; and parents, Harold Sr. and Irene Chauvin. 


Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Chauvin Funeral Home. (Chauvin)
