Herman “Meatball” Johnson, 73, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011.


Mr. Johnson was a deacon at Mount Zion Baptist Church.


He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Johnson; sons, Herman, Wayne (Jeanie) and Brian Johnson; daughters, Sheila (Jimmie) Winston, Hazel (Roynell) Hawkins, Vanessa (Carl) Washington, Debbie Adams, Denise and Elaine Williams; stepchildren, Melecia, Bernard Jr., James, Michael and Wayne Ingram; brothers, Tim Bryant and Lonnie Ellis; sisters, Mary (James) Bryant and Charlene Johnson; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivory Johnson and Hazel Ellis; son, Kenyatta Williams; brothers, Ernest and Norman Johnson; sister, Rosemary Johnson; and grandparents, Willie and Emma Williams.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Thibodaux with a religious service to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery. (Kennedy)
