Irene B. Matherne, 84, a native and resident of Cut Off, entered eternal rest to be with the Lord and her past loved ones Monday, May 11.


She is survived by her five children, Claudette M. Hebert, Ernest Matherne and wife, Laurie Breaux, Louella M. Doucet and husband, Jimmie N. Doucet Jr., Edward Matherne Sr. and wife, Diane L. Matherne, and David Matherne and wife Nora Jean C. Matherne; 11 grandchildren, Ted Hebert, Fred Hebert, Lisa H. Danos, Stacy H. Galliano, Missy M. Orgeron, Tate Matherne, Chad Doucet, Dawn D. Theriot, Edward Matherne Jr., Karlie Matherne, and Jody Matherne; and eighteen great-grandchildren, Jenna Hebert, Cody Hebert, Cade Danos, Alec Danos, Aren Galliano, Luke Galliano, Rhett Orgeron, Jaden Matherne, Jerzi Matherne, Braden Doucet, Breanne Doucet, Caleb Doucet, Trey Doucet, Carter Theriot, Maddox Matherne, Mason Matherne, Paige Matherne, and Jace Matherne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Early J. Matherne; her parents, Policar and Celeste Cheramie Bychurch; one son-in-law, Alvin Hebert; one granddaughter, Angela Doucet; three brothers, Antoine, John, and Charley Bychurch; and two sisters, Antoinette B. Cheramie, and Bertha B. Guidry.


She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and Ladies Altar Society, and a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Her love, devotion to family and friends and never-ending generosity to all those around her will endure in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. until funeral Wednesday, 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Samart-Mothe Funeral Home of Cut Off is in charge of arrangements.
