James “Freck” Anthony Cologne, 77, a native and resident of Des Allemands, La., died Sunday, July 26, at 11:10 a.m.


He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deanna Cortez Cologne; one daughter, Marie Cologne Loupe and husband Kevin; one grandson, James Anthony Loupe; and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Henry Cologne Sr. and Antoinette Tregle Cologne; and two brothers, Alfred Cologne Jr. and Richard Joseph Cologne Sr.

He worked for Delta Exploration and was also a tug boat captain for Otto Candies. He retired later in life as a commercial fisherman. He enjoyed bartending at St. Gertrude’s dance for 17 years and making fudge for the Catfish Festival. He also enjoyed gardening and giving his vegetables to family and friends. He was a parishioner of St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
