Jerome Michael Dagate, 56, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Monday, Sept. 14, at 9:40 a.m.


He is survived by his son, Shawn Trotter and wife Shanna of Katy, Texas; two grandchildren, Angel Ann and Aaron Michael; two sisters, Bernadette Dagate Straatman and husband Larry of Houma, and Christine M. Dagate of Houma; one brother, Russell Strada of San Francisco, Calif.; five nieces and nephews, Caroline, Catherine, Ladd Straatman, Benjamin Cannon and Sarah C. Olivier and husband Alex; one great nephew, Gabriel Olivier; one great niece, Grace Olivier; and many aunts, uncles and cousins

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Peaches R. Trotter; parents, Alex L. Dagate and Emmadel Boyne D. Strada; and grandparents, Andrew Boyne, Mary Belanger Boyne, Lawrence Dagate and Victoria C. Dagate.


He was Catholic and a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. He graduated form Vandebilt Catholic High School in 1970. Jerome was very inspirational to those who knew him especially in teaching his family many lessons of life such as acceptance, kindness, patience and peace. He was a meek and humble disciple of Jesus who studied the Bible and lived a very simplistic Christian life. He was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of the arrangements.
