Joel Shelby, 59, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died Thursday, October 9.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline A. Shelby of Raceland; three daughters, Tierra Atkins and Tameron Atkins of Raceland and Polly Bergeron of Houston, Tx.; two brothers, Leonard Shelby and Valarie Shelby both of Raceland; five sisters, Carolyn Holmes, Janice Miller, and Denise Garner of Raceland, Sandra Hicks of Broussard, La., and Vera Adams of Gray, La.; and six grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Enesta and Wilmer Shelby Sr.; one son, Cory Arrington; one brother, Wilma Shelby Jr.; four sisters, Joyce Shelby, Paulette and Claudette Shelby and Diana Shelby; and grandparents, Fannie and Leonard Hadley and John and Azelia Shelby.

He was Baptist. He enjoyed working on cars, watching football and fishing.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, at Kennedy Funeral Home in Raceland with a religious service to follow. He will be buried at Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery in Raceland.
