John Stephen Beauregard Gray, 67, a resident of Thibodaux, La., died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 at 7:45 a.m.


He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kutiper Gray; son, John Gray; one granddaughter; and two stepchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Seawillow Pipkin Gray; and brother, Ralph Lewis Gray.


He received a Bachelor of Sciences Degree at LSU and a law degree from Tulane University. He practiced law in New Orleans until he moved to Washington D.C. in 1974 where he was the head of labor relations for the U.S. Department of Education. He returned to New Orleans in 1990 to become vice president of J.R. Gray Barge, Inc. and was also a partner and founder of G&H Barge Repair and Fabrication, LLC of Houma. He was an avid fisherman, a voracious reader, and a life long member of the “Who Dat” Nation. His outgoing, jovial manner and his sharp sense of humor quickly earned him the friendship and admiration of those he met. He touched the lives of many people and is very much loved by those he left behind.

Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at the First Presbyterian Church in Thibodaux.
