Joseph Antoine Cancienne, Sr., 83, a native of Bakersfield, Ca. and a resident of Houma, La., died at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2006.


Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. funeral time Monday, Dec. 11, 2006 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paradis, La. with burial in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Des Allemands, La.


He is survived by his wife, Grace Guillot Cancienne; two sons, Joseph and Jason Cancienne; three daughters, Mary Ann Matherne, Gracie Dufrene and Connie Bensusen; one sister, Rose Schaubhut; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Octave and Josephine Thibodaux Cancienne; 11 brothers, Uran, Dewey, Norman, Cleveland, Sylvain, Ivy, Elmo, Thomas, Wison, Willie, and Paul Cancienne, and three sisters, Des Arabie, Margarite Breaux, and Clara Boudoin.

He was a retired employee of Continental Can Co. and Texaco.

Falgout Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
