Joseph Lagarde, 70, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006.


Visitation will be held from 6:45 p.m. to musical tribute Tuesday and from 10:15 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Residence Baptist Church in Houma. Religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Houma.


He is survived by his wife, Vanester Jackson Lagarde of Houma; five sons, Jerrett James Hickman and wife, Veatrice, of Baton Rouge La., Joseph Lagarde IV and wife, Danielle, Daryell Lagarde and David Lagarde of Houma and Henry Miller III and wife, Sarah, of Fort Meyers, Fla.; four daughters, Jerralyn J. Hickman, Christine Lecompte and husband, Archie, and Tanya Lagarde of Houma and Debra Lagarde Sidberry and husband, Micheal, of Texas; one brother, Purnell Lagarde and wife, Geraldine, of Houma; 22 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Joseph Lagarde Sr.; his stepfather, Levy Campbell; one daughter, Darlene Ray; one sister, Winnona Lagarde; his grandparents, Eugene Bell, Louise Bell Cook and Johnny Cook; and one grandson, Tyrae Hickman.

Mr. Lagarde was a retired superintendent over parks and grounds for Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government. He was an agent for Gertrude Geddis Life Ins. Co. and Union National Life Ins. Co. before working for Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government.

He was a member of Residence Baptist Church and served on the Trustee Board, was vice president of the senior choir and was a member of Residence Baptist Church Male Chorus. He also served as a member of the 5th District Mass Choir. His hobbies included cooking and baking.

Kennedy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement.
