Karl E. Lewis Jr., 77, a native and resident of Houma, La., died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011.


Mr. Lewis was a 1959 graduate of LSU law school and was a practicing attorney in Houma for 52 years. He received the Elton Darsey Lifetime Achievement Award from the Terrebonne Parish Bar Association in 2004. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War who loved chess, baseball, reading books, tennis, foreign languages and LSU.

He is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Jaime) LeBlanc; son, Frank Austin; stepchildren, Donald Austin and Linda Authement; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Lewis; and parents, Karl Sr. and Gwinette Lewis. (Falgout)
