Laura Mae Portier, 84, a native of Chauvin, La., and resident of Saint Amant, La., died at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011.

Mrs. Portier worked for the Continental Can Company and the Jefferson Parish School Board. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.


She is survived by her son, Joey (Kathleen) Baudean; six grandchildren, Tammy Morales, Dodie Matthews, Jessica Szomi, and Ashley, Ariel and Hylas Baudean; 12 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Destinee and Keely Morales, Lacey Bourque, Caitlin and Colby Matthews, Brenden and Brycen Szomi, and Brentten, Tristan, Bre’annah and Destanee’ Baudean; and sister, Odile “Dee Dee” Pellerin.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Henry Portier; children, Kenneth Boudreaux and Sheila Fredrick; sisters, Azora Bergeron, Aldoris Portier and Anna Carrere; and brothers, Johnny, Harold and Jimmy Portier.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at Amedysis Hospice and Ascension Oaks Nursing Home.

She is buried at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. (Chauvin)
