Leona Miller Gaines, 76, a native of Thibodaux, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Friday Aug. 21.


She is survived by one son, Gregory Thomas of Thibodaux; four sisters, Lillie Mae Miller, Lois Matthews, Linda Johnson and Louise Miller, all of Thibodaux; four brothers, Charles Miller, Ernest Thomas Jr., Edward Miller and Charlie Miller, all of Thibodaux; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Gaines; parents, Ernest and Cora Miller; and three sisters, Julia Miller, Doris Johnson and Margaret Pierce.

She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral Catholic Church. She also was a member of Knights of Peter Claver. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and shopping.

Visitation will be 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday Aug. 29, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral Catholic Church in Thibodaux with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

Kennedy Funeral Home in Raceland, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
