Leonard Z. “Bee” Boudreaux Jr., 97, a native and lifelong resident of Thibodaux, La., died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 at Garden Terrace Nursing Center in Overland Park, Kan.

He enjoyed a long and fulfilled life and the love of family and friends. Bee lost his own parents at a young age and was raised by his aunt Leonide Boudreaux, known by most as “Nan”. He attended Mt. Carmel and graduated from Thibodaux College in 1931. He spent his working life as proprietor of Boudreaux’s Grocery, formerly Boudreaux Brothers, which was located at the corner of Narrow and East 7th Street. He was a master craftsman and as a young man distinguished himself and Thibodaux as a national finalist in the General Motors Fisher Body Craftsman Guild Contest. Bee enjoyed his retired years in Thibodaux and until recent years lived in the Country Club area and at St. Joseph’s Manor. He was an enthusiastic genealogist and an active participant at the Thibodaux Senior Center. In 2003 he served as Thibodaux Senior Mayor for a Day.


He is survived by his sons, Michael (Kay), John (Maria Estela), and Daniel (Julie) Boudreaux; two grandsons, Don (Katherine) and David (Jennifer) Boudreaux; two granddaughters, Nicole (David) Crutchfield, and Michel (Brent) Coverdale; and six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Cal, Chloe and Duncan Boudreaux, and Julia and Luke Coverdale.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Zachary Boudreaux Sr. and Agnes Ledet Boudreaux; aunt, Leonide “Nan” Boudreaux; first wife, Marguerite Cecile Blanchard Boudreaux; second wife, Gertrude “Trudy” Ganel Boudreaux; one grandson, John Zachary Boudreaux; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law of his adopted Blanchard family.

He is buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
