Lester James Gomez Sr., 89, a native of White Castle, La., and a resident of Metairie, La., entered into eternal peace Friday, Oct. 2.
He is survived by his wife, Emillia Durand Gomez; six children, Perry J. Wood, Glen Gomez and wife Stephanie Kenney-Gomez, Bruce “Paw-Paw” Gomez and wife Lucinda, David J. Gomez and wife Laura, Lester Gomez Jr., and Cheryl Gomez-Ray and husband Steven; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile “Bill” Gomez and Edmonia Dugas Gomez; four brothers, Corbett Gomez, Sterling Gomez, Pete Gomez and Alvin Gomez; one sister, Laura Guillot; and two step-children, Steve Migliore and Patricia Bowling.
Lester proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the Victory and Good Conduct Medals. “Be happy for me, I am dancing with the angels now!”
A church service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at Christ the Redeemer in Thibodaux, La.
Samart Funeral Home in Houma, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
