Dr. Lohmann “Lo Jo” Joseph Baker, Ph.D., 51, a native of Baton Rouge, La. and resident of Cut Off, La., died at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006.

A private service and burial will be held at a later date.


He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Plaisance Baker; two daughters, Darkus Dawn Baker and Nalon Rae Baker; two brothers, Troy Baker and Holden “Hoppy” Baker; one sister, Brenda Sanches; and one granddaughter, Kylie Bo Baker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Peggy Hamilton Baker.

He was a bridgetender at the Leeville Bridge and a U.S. Navy Seal. He was a member of the ACLU and a founding member of the Smithsonian Institute of Native Americans. He had a Ph.D. in anthropology and a Ph.D. in pre-historic Native American affairs.
