Louise Melancon Matthews, 84, a native and resident of Paincourtville, La., died Sunday, March 30, at her residence.

She is survived by her daughters, Marian R. Matthews of Paincourtville and Marilyn A. Lowe of Metairie, La.; sister, Venolia and Milton Robinson of Paincourtville; brother-in-law, Joseph Pearley of Atlanta, Ga.; grandson, Roger and Valerie Beckwith Jr. of Paincourtville; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Matthews; parents, Cleveland and Fannie Melancon; brothers, Cleveland Jr., Oscar and Harold Melancon Sr.; sisters, Martha Melancon and Ida Mae Pearley; and son-in-law, Lionel Lowe.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5 at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Paincourtville. Rev. Lionel Griffin will officiate the religious services at 11 a.m. She will be buried at the church cemetery.

Williams and Southall Funeral Home of Napoleonville, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
