Mary A. Freet, 88, a native of New Orleans, La., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.


Mrs. Freet was a member of the American Contract Bridge League, the Episcopal Church Women and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Thibodaux.


She is survived by daughters, Mary (Albert) Davis, Anne Granier and Ellen (Thomas) Stevens; son, Ira “Trippy” (DeAnne) Freet III; sister, Ellen Simms; brother, Charles (Kathleen) Archer; seven grandchildren, Christian D. Freet, Mimi G. Pisani, Jane E. Abrams, Sara C. Stueben, Benjamin C. Davis, Courtney A. Freet and Catherine A. Stevens; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Granier and Molly Pisani; her dearest friends and traveling companions, Sara and Steve Attaya, and Dinah Payne; and her longtime bridge partner, Edmund Cappel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Putnam Archer; husband, Ira Chester Freet Jr.; and son-in-law, Douglas Granier.

Memorials in Freet’s honor may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church or to the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, 1100 Broadway, New Orleans, La., 70118.
