Mary Lee Harang Picou of Virginia Beach, Va., died Friday, May 21, 2010, peacefully in her home with family by her side.


Born 1930 on Celina Plantation near Valentine, Mrs. Picou was the daughter of Warren and Winifred Harang Sr. of Thibodaux.


The youngest of five children, she graduated from Lockport High School in 1948 and attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. As the wife of Dr. Wally J. Picou of Houma, she assisted his medical practice and was a member of the Terrebonne Parish Women’s Medical Auxiliary. The family moved to Virginia Beach in 1970 when Dr. Picou joined the Emergency Room staff at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk.

She is survived by four daughters, Rebecca (Thomas J. Hamilton), Mary Lee “Tita”, Robin, and Lori A. Picou; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Bernice Peltier Harang; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Picou is buried at Magnolia Cemetery.
