Mercedes “Bright” Strovet Matthews, 94, a native of Houma, La., and resident of Terrebonne Parish, La., died Thursday, June 23, 2011.
Mrs. Matthews was a member of New Rising Sun Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Harris; sister, Eartha Strovet; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Matthews; parents, John and Maggie Strovet; son, Louis Matthews Jr.; daughter, Rose Matthews; brother, Cleveland Williams; and sister, Beatrice Jackson.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 1 at Community Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2 at New Rising Sun Baptist Church. (Community)
