Minerva Nixon, 77, a native of Terrebonne Parish, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Sunday, Sept. 13, at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma.

She is survived by five daughters, Brenda Livas, Annie Nells and husband William Jr., Bertha Celestine, Constance Nixon and Debra Boyd and husband Charles, all of Houma; four sons, Larry Nixon and wife Linda of Clayton, La., Steven Nixon, Allen Nixon and Cory Nixon, all of Houma; four sisters, Ethel Woods of Schriever, La., Octavia Byrd of Houma, Mildred Stevenson of Baytown, Texas, and Constance Newton of Houma; four brothers, Daniel Nixon Sr. and wife Doretha of New Orleans, La., Leroy Nixon Sr., George Stevenson and wife Roberta, and Earl Stevenson Jr. and wife Earline, all of Houma; three godchildren, Wayne Ingram, Curtis Nixon and Mona Smith; 36 great-grandchildren; 74 great-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her foster father, Malchai Nixon Sr.; foster mother, Alberta Nixon; parents, Earl Stevenson Sr. and Annie Nixon; five brothers, Malchai Nixon Jr., Willie Nixon Sr., Allen Nixon Sr., Alfred Stevenson and Larenzo Stevenson; and three sisters, Edna Ingram, Mary Lee Small and Mildred Jackson.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and served on the Deaconess Board. Her hobbies included cooking and babysitting her grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at First Baptist Church in Schriever with a religious service to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Kennedy Funeral Home in Raceland, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
