Nathan James “Turkey Man” Lawrence Jr., 60, a native and resident of Belle Rose, La., died Sunday, March 14, 2010.


Mr. Lawrence was a carpenter.

He is survived by sons, Nathaniel (Denise) Watkins and Stephen (Tina) Lawrence Sr., all of New York; daughter, Natalie Ross of Belle Rose; mother, Estella Lawrence of Belle Rose; sisters, Diana (Charles) Jones, Peggy Lawrence, Elisha (Curtis Sr.) Birtha, Eugenia (Irwin Sr.) Chatman, Eunice (Clarence III) Henry and Marcellina (Elvis) Lawrence; nieces, Shelita (Dwayne) Tucker and Marquita Lawrence; brothers, William (Ceola), Jerkyle (Barbara), Lonnie, Phillip (Barbara) and Rush Lawrence; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives.


He was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Lawrence Sr.; sisters, Neoma and Shelia Lawrence and Loretta Hawes; maternal grandparents, Williams and Neoma Garnett; paternal grandparents, Chester and Velma Lawrence; niece, Trinessa L. Adams; and great-niece, Brittany Adams.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 20, at Greater Israel Baptist Church in Belle Rose. A religious service, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Dorsey, will follow at the church at noon.

He will be buried at Greater Israel Baptist Church in Belle Rose.

Williams and Southall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
