O’Neil Charles Labit Jr., 93, a native of Westwego, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011.


Mr. Labit served in the U.S. Army National Guard during World War II and retired from Texaco where he worked as a cook. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and volunteered at Terrebonne General Medical Center and Heritage Manor Nursing Home.

He was a parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral.


He is survived by his sisters, Vera Riggs, Norma Naquin and Betty Mercier; brothers, Raymond, Norbert and James Labit; stepson, Ronald Hutchinson; three step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Labit; parents, O’Neil Sr. and May Labit; sister, Clothilde Boudreaux; brother, Louis Labit; and one step-grandchild.

Burial was at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #1. (Chauvin)
