Percy Alvin Ward, 71, a native of St. Elmo, La. and resident of Houma, La. died Thursday, November 8, 2007.


He is survived by five brothers, Bishop Arthur Ward and his wife Henrietta, Bishop Joshua Ward and his wife Martha, Major Randolph Ward and his wife Irene, Sidney Ward and his wife Druzella, and Emile Sims and his wife Sharon; one stepbrother, Kermit Washington; and one sister, Sadie Thigpin.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Briggs Ward; his parents, Junius and Louise Ward; two brothers, Israel Clarence Ward and the Rev. Robert Ward; four sisters, Louise Barnes, Dorothy Morris, Vearline Batiste, and Evella Thompson; and his grandparents, Hezekiah and Emma Ward.

Percy was a devout Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Ward’s Auto and Body and Fender Shop. He was a member of The Southern Echoes of Houma, The Southern Travelers of Houma, Blaine C. Clay Lodge No. 14 F & AM, and Samuel Right Chapter No. 40.

Visitation is Friday, November 16, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with the funeral to follow at First Baptist Church in Houma. He will be buried in New Rising Sun Cemetery.

Gertrude Geddes Willis-Terrebonne Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
