Pierre “Leonce” Richard, 93, a native of Erath, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.


Mr. Richard was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was a bookkeeper by trade and business owner and co-founder of Houma’s first hamburger drive-in, Best-O-Burger. He was a member of the American Legion, Terrebonne Tennis Club and Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in the organization of Maria Immacolata Church and was a founding member of the Krewe of Christopher. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and enjoyed camping.

He is survived by his children, Janice (Stephen) LeCompte and Arnold (Kathy), Nevelyn, Henry (Sharon) and Walter (Veronica) Richard; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Dryer; parents, Albert and Marie Richard; and brothers, Joseph and Laywood Richard.


Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Maria Immacolata Church with mass to follow. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery No. 2. (Chauvin)
