Rachael Bergeron Haydel, 71, a native and resident of Houma, La., died at noon Sunday, May 20, 2007.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Samart Funeral Home of Houma. Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.


She is survived by three sons, Luby Freeman III, Larry Freeman Sr. and Bruce Haydel; one daughter, Carrie Hebert and husband, Bryant Sr.; three brothers, John, David and Gene Bergeron; five sisters, Ruth Pitre, Ruby Ellender, Patsy Bergeron, Myrtle Bergeron and Judy Durocher; 10 grandchildren, Renee’ McDougull, Luby Freeman IV, Joshua Freeman, Travis Freeman, Larry Freeman Jr., Leslie Freeman, Shai Mathison, Chad Hebert, Bryant Hebert Jr. and Amanda Hebert; nine great-grandchildren, Logan McDougull, Faith Freeman, Kaydence Freeman, Kade Freeman, Jolee’ Hebert, Jace Hebert, Michael Trahan, Zack Mathison and Emily Mathison; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Haydel; her parents, John and Mary Bourg Bergeron; five brothers, Perry, Roland, Sidney, Carroll and Henry Bergeron; and three sisters, Melba Bergeron, Celina Carlos and Susanne Bergeron.

She was an artist and painted for Ducks Unlimited.

Samart Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.
