Raoul “Pop” Girard Sr., 84, a native Duson, La., and longtime resident of Morgan City, La., died Tuesday, May 17, 2011.

Mr. Girard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. A veteran of WWII, he loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports, hunting, fishing and gardening. Raoul especially enjoyed family gatherings for whatever occasion.


He is survived by his sons, Russell (Peggy), Micky (Sandra), Tracy (Hope), Raoul Jr. (Danette), Keith (Lynette) and L. J. (Heather) Girard; daughter, Linda (Freddie) Gaspard; stepdaughter, Marsha (Danny) Ronsonet; brothers, Frank, Minus and Ronny Girard; and sister, Shorty Theriot; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leus and Ella Miguez Girard; wife, Sydney-Lee Justilian Girard; one brother; and four sisters.

He is buried at Morgan City Cemetery. (Hargrave)
