Rev. Rene Champagne, CP, 89, a native of Lockport, La., died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 in Louisville, Ky.


Rev. Champagne professed his Passionist vows in 1942 and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1949. As a priest, he generously served as secretary to both Passionist provincial and world-wide leadership, parish minister, retreat center staff, local community assistant leader and minister of prayer.

He is survived by his Passionist community; brothers, Hubert, Patrick and Richard Champagne; and sisters, Vivian Dolan, Marie Bergeron Sr., Marguerite Champagne and Helen Gautreaux.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Emelienne Richard Champagne; two sisters, Lucille LeBlanc and Rita Creswell; and two brothers, Robert Sr. and John Champagne.

He is buried at Passionist Monastery Cemetery.
