Sheriff’s ranges give public a new target

Rex Joseph King Sr., 72, a native and resident of Houma, La., succumbed to death after a lengthy illness at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 10:55 a.m.


Mr. King was a Christian, and a songwriting member of BMI. His greatest hit was “Don’t Rock the Boat.” He also collaborated on three CDs: “Our Sweet Melodies,” “Pillow of Dreams” and “Nothing But Time.” He was a fishing tool supervisor in the oilfield.


He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Julia Deroche King of Houma; sons, Rex Jr. (Terri) and Sandy (Ingrid) King; daughters, Bonnie Fortson of Thibodaux, Marie (Hanson “Butch”) Nelton of Houma, Charlene Coleman of Thibodaux and Penny (Stacey) Scott of Wilmington, N.C.; brother, Michael Martin of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Kathy Deroche of Albemarle, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron King and Marie Cunningham King Martin; and sister, Loretta King Pontiff.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Chauvin Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

He will be buried at a later date at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 1.
