Richard Vernon Battise Sr., 71, a native of Grand Caillou, La., and resident of Chauvin, La., died at 4:33 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2012.

Mr. Battise was retired from the Terrebonne Parish Drainage Department and was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed music and gave his heart to his family. He was Catholic.


He is survived by his companion, Ann Maechling; sons, Kelly (Kimberly), Jason (Amanda) and Robert (Shanna) Battise; daughters, Elizabeth (Marc) Champagne and Tonni (John) LeCompte; brother, Robert Miller; stepson, Lee Frantom; stepdaughter, Jackie Landry; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Battisse; father, Vernon Battise; mother, Elizabeth Ware; son, Richard Battise Jr.; brother, Roy Miller; sister, Rita Chauvin; grandparents, Roy and Katie DeSilvey; and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Samart Funeral Home in Houma, La., and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery. (Samart)
