Roy James Brien Sr., a native of Houma, La., and resident of Bogalusa, La., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, after battling a lengthy illness.

Mr. Brien was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country during the Korean Conflict. He spent many years working in the oilfield business and was owner and operator of the Fiesta Lounge from 1959 through 2003. He was a charter member of the Hercules Carnival Club. He was a former member of the V.F.W. Post 3700 and a member of Magic City Post 24 of the American Legion.


He is survived by his wife, Virginia Doris Walker Brien; sons, Roy Jr. (Wendy) and Dale (Theresa) Brien and Monte Neely; daughters, Donna Thibodaux and Karen (Kenny) Fisher; brother, Gerald Brien; sister, Joyce Brien; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Kay Brien; parents, Severin and Anise Matherne Brien; four brothers, Bruce, Ira, Gorgon “Do” and Vernon Brien; and one sister, Yvette Foster.

He is buried at Ponemah Cemetery. (Brown-McGehee)
