Ruby Marie Aucoin Bascle, 93, a native and resident of Bourg, La., died Friday, Sept. 25.

She is survived by one son, Richard “Dickie” Thomas Bascle and wife Sharon Fletcher Bascle of Bourg; two grandchildren, Leslie Thomas Bascle and wife Brandy Dessell Bascle, and Derek John Bascle and wife Julie’ Boudreaux Bascle; and four great-grandchildren, Anna Claire and Caleb Michael Bascle, Thomas Michael Louis Bascle and Lauren Nicole Gottschalk.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Thomas Bascle; parents, Regina Robichaux Aucoin and Camille Aexis Aucoin; one grandson, Michael Paul Bascle; two brothers, Peter Joseph “P.J.” Aucoin and Numa C. “Frenchie” Aucoin; one sister-in-law, Lola Aucoin; one sister, Vivian Aucoin Finklea; and one brother-in-law, Bob Finklea.

She was Catholic and a very active parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Ann’s Ladies Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a receptionist for Dr. Arthur Anisman for 5 years and a Singer Sewing Machine salesperson for 10 years. She worked the church fairs for many years. She sang in the church choir beginning at the age of 8 and continuing until St. Ann hired an organist. She cleaned the church until she could no longer drive. She sewed altar clothes and washed and ironed altar clothes. After she retired she delivered meals on wheels and washed hair at a nursing home. She was Business Woman of the year in 1972. She was well known in the Mardi Gras community as she altered Mardi Gras costumes and dressed the queens for local clubs.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Chauvin Funeral Home, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at St. Ann Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. at the church with burial at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery.

Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of the arrangements.
