Sidney Scott Simmons, 40, a native of LaPlace, La., and resident of Gray, La., died Saturday, April 23, 2011.


Mr. Simmons worked for the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office for 16 years starting off in corrections. He then became a patrol deputy and a sergeant in the K-9 division, and was then promoted to shift commander. He had a short stay in the crime lab and from there went to the Narcotics Division. He was currently working for the Thibodaux Police Department. He served in the Marine Corps and was the president and founding member of the Brothers in Blue Motorcycle Club. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid University of Alabama fan.


He is survived by his parents, Thomas Jr. and Marjorie Hutson Simmons; brother, Thomas (Rebecca) Simmons III; sisters, Melanie Smith and Monica (Tom) Bosley; nephews, David Pierson and Travis Simmons; nieces, Kristen (Curtis) Ott, Melissa (Jonathan) Holt, Michelle (Hogan) Hunter, Marie Smith and Jessica Simmons; girlfriend, Lanie Verdin; and her children, Logan, Alaina, Makayla and Alaya.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Donald Smith.

He is buried at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Baker, La. (Chauvin)
