Stella Z. Gilbert, 94, a native of Lancaster, New York, and resident of Raceland, Louisiana, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014.
Mrs. Gilbert was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II. She volunteered at Niagara Lutheran Home and Trinity Old Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Buffalo Area Chapter of the American Theater Organ Society.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Gilbert; three grandchildren, Tracy Gregory, Krista Marz and Rachel Opala; two great-grandchildren, Katherine Gilbert and Christopher Hurst; and sister, Nellia Molea.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl G. Gilbert; son, Edwin E. Gilbert; parents, Stanley and Bronislava Zalewski; and her siblings.
A memorial service was held Jan. 31 at Grace Lutheran Church in Houma. Burial is at St. Mary Cemetery in Raceland.
