Valdia Joseph “Coon” Adams Jr., 86, a native and resident of Houma, La., died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, September 4.


He is survived by five sons, Jerry Adams and wife Julianne, David Adams, Donald Adams and wife Liz, Rickie Adams and wife Greta, and Steve Adams and wife Penny of Houma; two daughters, Brenda A. Samanie and husband Michael of Houma, and Debra A. Champagne and companion Craig of Gheens, La.; two sisters, Mildred A. Mount and Mary A. Berniard of Houma; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Lapeyrouse Adams; his parents, Valdia J. Adams Sr. and Elizabeth Bessie Moore Adams; one son, Valdia Joseph Adams III; one granddaughter; one brother, Nolan “Sam” Adams; and four sisters, May A. Pierce, Euna A. Hebert, Gladys A. H. Domangue and Genevieve A. B. LeBouef.

He was a retired truck driver and night watchman with Patterson Truck Lines. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former member of the VFW Post No. 3700. He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, at Chauvin Funeral Home with mass to follow. He will be buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
