Houma man found guilty of wife’s ‘04 storage box murder

Velma Matherne Breaux, 85, a native and resident of Des Allemands, LA., died at 8:23 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2007.

Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. Gertrude Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.


She is survived by four sons, Wilfred P., Gregory M. “Moose”, Kerry J. and Frank Breaux; three brothers, Maurice, Lester and George Matherne; two sisters, Bessie Matherne and Betty Champagne; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Breaux; her parents, Hypolite and Clementine Folse Matherne; two brothers, Eloie and Eddie Matherne; and two sisters, Thelma Dufrene and Elma Perrer.

She was a member of St. Gertrude Ladies Altar Society and was active in the Catfish Festival.

She was a parishioner of St. Gertrude Catholic Church.
