Viness Joseph Callais, 80, a native of Golden Meadow, La., and a resident of Cut Off, La., died at 6 a.m. Monday, June 16.


He is survived by his wife, Glorina St. Pierre Callais; sons, Robert Callais and wife, Lorraine, and Keith Callais; daughters, Linda Gisclair and husband, Jerry, Judy Plaisance and husband, Phillip, and Laverne Dantin and husband, Roy; brother, Wilton Callais; sister, Patty Bruce; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Anacia Gaspard Callais; brothers, Richard and Hudson Callais; and sisters, Irma Lee, Rose Mae Serigny and Thelma Callais.


He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, usher of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Cruising Cajuns.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Joseph Hospice, Hospice of Bayou Region and American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off with mass to follow. He will be buried at Cheramie Cemetery.

Samart-Mothe Funeral Home of Cut Off is in charge of the arrangements.
