Warren Petrie

Warren A. Petrie, 82, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010.

Mr. Petrie enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in the Houma area with his children, grandchildren and his friend, Bucky. Beginning his world travels as a young man in the Merchant Marine Corp during WWII, Warren traveled around the world cultivating long-lasting friendships. He worked for American Standard Corporation and J. Ray McDermott. He received many patents for his designs and ideas. Upon retirement, he and the love of his life decided to move nearer to his favorite “fishing hole” in Houma, LA. He was a Mason. As a 50 plus year member of the Kosmos Lodge, he served as a past-master achieving the level of 3rd degree in the lodge. He was a member of the Unity Lodge in Houma.

He took great comfort in having his family around him whenever possible. Children and grandchildren often brought their challenging school projects to Warren to get his advice and assistance. Giving tirelessly of his time and talents, Warren helped many community groups and schools. Constant companions of Warren were his dogs, and in particular, “Bubba” who never left his side as his health deteriorated.

He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. After visiting with his many friends and family, Warren made his “final trip”. He will be greatly missed by all who know and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Carol M. Petrie; daughters, Sherry (Gary) Allen; sons, Eric Petrie; Kurt (Lori), Jon (Pennie) Petrie; sister, Elaine Petrie; and eight grandchildren, Meryn Olivier, Kyle, Krista and Blake Allen, and Derick, Sarah, Miranda and Sean Petrie.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Earl J. Petrie.

He is buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
